Caridina multidentata "Snow" (1–2 cm)
White Amano shrimp – elegant, peaceful and an excellent aquarium cleaner
Caridina multidentata "Snow" is a rare and elegant variant of the Amano shrimp, recognisable by its snow-like translucent white colouration. Hardy and very active, it retains all the qualities of the wild form while adding a touch of purity and contrast to natural aquascapes and planted aquariums.
Behaviour and care
This shrimp is peaceful, social and mostly diurnal. It lives in groups of 6 or more individuals in a well-balanced, well-oxygenated aquarium. It constantly roams over the glass, plants and décor in search of algae and tiny debris. A tank of at least 50 litres with plenty of calm, shaded areas is recommended.
Feeding
Caridina multidentata "Snow" is mainly herbivorous and detritivorous. It naturally feeds on algae and biofilm, but also enjoys vegetable-based wafers, spirulina and dried leaves (catappa, nettle, moringa).
It does not damage healthy plants and cohabits perfectly with calm, non-predatory fish.
Water quality
- Ideal temperature: 22 – 27 °C
- pH: 6.5 – 7.5
- GH: 5 – 12 °dGH
- KH: 2 – 6 °KH
- Conductivity: 200 – 400 µS
Use a copper-free water conditioner before each water change. Sudden changes in temperature or pH can be fatal — prioritise stability.
Décor and environment
A fine, light-coloured substrate will enhance their white coloration. Natural plants such as mosses (Java, Weeping, Christmas) and driftwood are ideal to provide shelter and grazing surfaces. A moderate-flow filter is recommended to avoid accidental suction.
