Peaceful, gregarious African tetra for well-planted community aquariums
The Alestopetersius caudalis 4 cm (Alestopetersius caudalis, syn. Hemigrammopetersius caudalis) is a small African characin prized for its elegant silhouette, lively swimming and peaceful behaviour. It is perfectly at home in our freshwater environment and fits very well into a well-balanced community aquarium.
This gregarious species must be kept in a group to display natural behaviour and lively swimming activity. A planted layout, a few shaded areas and ample swimming space ensure it is kept in good conditions.
Alestopetersius caudalis is a calm, lively and gregarious fish, to be kept in a shoal of at least 8 individuals. It inhabits the middle zone and thrives in clean, well-oxygenated water, as well as a stable environment. For long-term care, provide an aquarium of at least 100 litres with effective filtration and regular maintenance.
To promote successful acclimatisation, we recommend using starter bacteria and regularly monitoring water parameters using our water tests.
Omnivorous with a tendency towards micro-predation, this fish readily accepts a varied diet: high-quality flakes, micro-pellets, brine shrimp, daphnia, cyclops and other frozen or live prey. A varied diet helps to maintain its vitality, colouration and natural behaviour. You can supplement this with our aquarium fish foods.
Before introducing any fish, it is advisable to use a water conditioner to ensure successful acclimatisation. Suitable filtration using aquarium filters and regular maintenance with our care products will help to maintain healthy, stable water.
This species looks its best in a planted aquarium, with a dark background, a few roots or branches, and open swimming spaces. Adding natural plants, a suitable substrate and aquarium lighting helps to create an environment close to its natural requirements.
