Small, lively schooling fish for community aquariums
The Danio choprai 2-2.5cm Wild (Danio choprae), also known as the necklace danio or glowlight danio, is offered in our freshwater section. It is suitable for well-equipped aquariums with community fish, plenty of open swimming space and good tank length.
A lively schooling and very active species from Asia (Myanmar, Irrawaddy basin), Danio choprae appreciates a stable aquarium with efficient filtration, good oxygenation and a gentle to moderate current. It should be kept in a school of at least 8–10 specimens to reduce stress and encourage natural behaviour. Provide a volume of at least 60–80 l (school). Use starter bacteria and check your parameters regularly with water tests.
An omnivorous species that readily accepts fine flakes, micro granules and frozen foods (brine shrimp, daphnia, cyclops). Vary the diet with our suitable foods to support colour and vitality. Small live foods (microworms, brine shrimp nauplii) help stimulate its natural hunting behaviour. Avoid overfeeding and remove uneaten food to maintain good water quality.
Before introducing the fish, treat the water with a water conditioner. Efficient filtration with good circulation (suitable filters) and regular maintenance (maintenance equipment, weekly water changes) ensure a healthy environment. This species is sensitive to nitrite spikes.
Choose a neutral aquarium substrate and plenty of natural plants along the back and sides, leaving the central area free for swimming. Provide quality lighting with our aquarium lighting and complete the layout with suitable decorations (roots, rocks) to structure the space. A lid is recommended, as danios are good jumpers.
