The Telescope (Carassius auratus var. Telescope Eye) is a very popular variety of goldfish, famous for its bulging, protruding eyes. Its intense colours (black, calico, red or orange) and slow swimming style make it an excellent ornamental fish for family aquariums and temperate outdoor ponds.

Behavior & care

The Telescope is a peaceful and inquisitive fish, but its limited vision makes it vulnerable when kept with faster tankmates. It should be housed with other calm fancy goldfish (Veiltail, Oranda, Pom Pom, Ranchu). It prefers a quiet environment with gentle flow and a stable temperature. Allow at least 60 L per fish in a well-filtered, well-maintained aquarium.

Feeding

As an omnivore, the Telescope eats flakes, floating pellets and fresh foods. It particularly benefits from goldfish foods rich in spirulina and carotenoids, which support colour intensity and vitality. Offer several small meals per day to prevent digestive issues.

Décor & environment

Provide a fine sand substrate and hardy aquatic plants such as Anubias and Cryptocoryne. Avoid sharp decorations or jagged rocks that could injure its eyes. Soft lighting will enhance its colours and elegant appearance.
