Trichogaster lalius "Neon" 4–5 cm (pair)
Small, colourful dwarf gourami, ideal for peaceful community aquariums
Trichogaster lalius "Neon", also known as the Neon dwarf gourami, is a tropical freshwater fish originating from Southeast Asia. Its small size and intense metallic colours make it an excellent choice for well-planted community aquariums. This item is sold as a pair (1 male + 1 female).
Behavior & care
A peaceful but sometimes shy species that should be kept in a calm tank, without aggressive or very boisterous fish (large barbs, big cichlids, etc.). The male can become territorial during breeding, so a well-structured layout with lots of plants is important.
- Recommended volume: min. 60 L for one pair.
- Gentle filtration, limited current to avoid tiring the fish.
- Floating plants and shaded areas are highly recommended.
Use starter bacteria and check water values regularly with our Aquabota test kits.
Feeding
Omnivore with a carnivorous tendency:
- Fine flakes and micro-pellets for tropical fish.
- Frozen or live foods: Artemia, daphnia, bloodworms (in small amounts).
- Some plant-based foods (spirulina, green foods) to balance the diet.
Offer a varied diet with our foods for small tropical fish to enhance colours and maintain good health.
Water parameters
- Ideal temperature: 24 – 30 °C
- pH: 6.0 – 7.5
- GH: 4 – 12 °dGH
- KH: 2 – 8 °KH
- Conductivity: 100 – 300 µS
A reliable heater and a low-flow filter are essential for stability and comfort.
Décor & environment
To reproduce its natural biotope as closely as possible:
- Dark or natural substrate to highlight the Neon colours.
- Dense planting with aquatic plants (stems, floating plants, mosses).
- Roots and hiding places so the pair can feel secure.
