Corydoras Aeneus 2,5-3cm(Corydoras aeneus)
Robust, peaceful bottom-dwelling Corydoras for community aquariums
The Corydoras Aeneus 2.5-3cm(Corydoras aeneus) is a great aquarium classic, appreciated for its robustness and very peaceful behaviour. Offered here in 2.5-3 cm (young specimens), it fits perfectly into our freshwater world and is suitable for well-equipped aquariums.
Behaviour & maintenance
The Corydoras aeneus is a calm, gregarious bottom-dwelling fish, ideal for the community aquarium. It should be kept in groups of at least 6 individuals to limit stress and observe natural behaviour.
- A bottom-dwelling school fish, it is most active in groups.
- Perfectly compatible with most small and medium-sized calm fish.
- Avoid aggressive or overly lively species that could cause stress.
A minimum volume of 80 L for a group is recommended, with a large floor area. Ensure good filtration, gentle stirring and well-oxygenated water. The use of starter bacteria is strongly recommended before introduction.
Feeding
The Corydoras aeneus is an omnivore with a tendency to micropredation, constantly foraging for food.
- Accepts sinking pellets, groundfish pellets and complete foods.
- Supplement with frozen or live food (artemia, daphnia, mud worms, etc.).
- Don't rely solely on 'leftovers' from other fish: plan a dedicated portion.

Water quality
- Ideal temperature: 22 - 27°C
- pH: 6.0 - 7.5
- GH: 3 - 12 °dGH
- KH: 1 - 6 °KH
- Conductivity: 100 - 300 µS
Prior to introduction, treat the water with a water conditioner to neutralise chlorine and heavy metals. Monitor your parameters regularly with water tests and make weekly changes of 20-30% in volume.
Decor & environment
Corydoras aeneus have sensitive barbels that they use to search the ground. A suitable environment is essential:
- Fine, non-cutting substrate (sand or rounded gravel) to protect the barbels.
- Numerous hiding places with roots, rocks, coconuts, etc.
- Natural plants to provide shade and resting places.
For an optimal environment, choose an aquarium substrate, natural plants and appropriate lighting. Add decorations to increase the number of shelters.
