Corydoras Venezuela Black 2-2,5cm(Corydoras cf. aeneus)
A peaceful, robust black/copper-bottomed Corydoras for the community aquarium.
The Corydoras Venezuela Black 2-2.5cm is a selected form of Corydoras cf. aeneus, recognisable by its dark coat with copper highlights and contrasting mask. Offered here in size 2-2.5 cm (young specimens), it fits perfectly into our freshwater world and is suitable for well-equipped aquariums.
Behaviour & maintenance
The Corydoras Venezuela Black is a very peaceful, gregarious bottom-dwelling fish, ideal for calm community tanks. It should be kept in groups of at least 6 individuals to limit stress and observe natural behaviour.
- A bottom-dwelling school fish, active and curious when in a group.
- Compatible with most small and medium-sized calm fish.
- Avoid aggressive or overly lively species.
Provide an aquarium of at least 80 litres with a good floor surface area. Ensure efficient filtration, gentle stirring and well-oxygenated water. The addition of starter bacteria is recommended to stabilise the cycle before introduction.
Feeding
The Corydoras Venezuela Black is an omnivore with a tendency to micropredation, constantly searching the bottom for food.
- Accepts sinking pellets, groundfish pellets and complete foods.
- Regularly supplement with frozen or live prey (artemia, daphnia, mud worms, etc.).
- Don't rely solely on leftovers from other fish: plan a specific ration.
See our range of foods for bottom-dwelling fish. In planted tanks, support plant growth with aquarium fertiliser.
Water quality
- Ideal temperature: 22 - 27°C
- pH: 6.0 - 7.5
- GH: 3 - 12 °dGH
- KH: 1 - 6 °KH
- Conductivity: 100 - 300 µS
Before introduction, use a water conditioner to neutralise chlorine and heavy metals. Regularly monitor your parameters with our water tests and make weekly water changes of 20-30%.
Decor & environment
Like all Corydoras, this form appreciates soft ground for its barbels and a reassuring environment:
- Afine, non-cutting substrate (sand or rounded gravel) is essential.
- Numerous hiding places: roots, stones, leaves, coconuts, etc.
- Natural plants to create shady areas and a safe environment.
For a natural look, choose an aquarium substrate, natural plants and appropriate lighting. Add decorations to increase the number of shelters.
