The Pterophyllum scalare is an emblematictropical freshwater fish. Native to South America, it captivates with its graceful triangular shape and calm demeanour. It is ideally suited to spacious planted aquariums.

Behaviour & care

A peaceful, gregarious species, it should be kept in groups of at least 5 or 6 individuals in an aquarium of at least 300 litres. It likes calm, vertical areas. A silent external filter and precise heating are essential.

Diet

Omnivorous to carnivorous: it accepts pellets, flakes, worms and artemia. Vary its diet with our tropical fish foods.

• pH: 6.0 - 7.2
• GH: 3 - 10 °dGH
• KH: 1 - 5 °KH
• Conductivity: 100 - 300 µS

Before introduction, treat the water with a suitable water conditioner and check your parameters regularly using aquarium tests.

Choose a dark substrate, tall plants (Vallisneria, Echinodorus) and soft lighting.
