Caridina cf. cantonensis "Blue Bolt"
High-end ornamental shrimp – electric blue and advanced selection
Caridina Blue Bolt is a selected variety of Caridina cf. cantonensis, belonging to the Taiwan Bee group. It is distinguished by its milky white to intense blue body, which can range from translucent sky blue to deep blue depending on the grade and genetics.
Highly prized in aquascaping and specialised tanks, it requires soft, acidic and extremely stable water. It is intended for careful aquarists who have mastered the technical parameters.
Behaviour and maintenance
- Very peaceful – ideal for shrimp-specific aquariums
- Lives in groups – minimum of 10 individuals recommended
- Do not mix with other Caridina strains (risk of hybridisation)
Optimal maintenance in a well-cycled nano-aquarium with active technical substrate, mosses and numerous biofilm surfaces.
Feeding
Detritivore / biofilmivore
- Natural biofilm (roots, stones, leaves)
- Specialised shrimp food (vegetable sticks, light protein powders)
- Occasional supplements: poached nettles, spinach, spirulina
Moderate distribution to avoid any increase in nitrites.
Water quality
- Temperature: 20–23 °C
- pH: 5.5–6.2
- GH: 4–5 °dGH
- KH: 0–1 °KH
- Conductivity: 100–180 µS
It is essential to use active technical soil and remineralised GH+ osmosis water.
Decor and environment
- Technical substrate (acidic and stable pH)
- Mosses, Bucephalandra, dwarf Anubias
- Natural hiding places: wood, catappa leaves, mini caves
Avoid variations in conductivity and sudden water changes. Gentle stirring recommended.

AquaBota tip
To intensify the blue colouring, maintain stable, low conductivity and feed a varied diet rich in minerals. A mature tank rich in microfauna greatly increases the survival rate of juveniles.
