Hypancistrus sp. "L236 SW", also known as Super White, is a spectacular variant ofHypancistrus, related to the famous L236. Native to the Rio Xingu basin (Brazil), this small loricariid has a brilliant white colour with black or dark blue mottling that is unique and highly prized in top-of-the-range aquascaping.

Behaviour & maintenance

This catfish is calm, territorial but not aggressive. It spends most of its time hiding in cavities or grazing on the scenery. It should be kept alone, in pairs or in groups in an aquarium of at least 80-100 L with good oxygenation and dark areas.
Well suited to planted or special tanks for loricariids.

Diet

Omnivorous with carnivorous tendencies, it consumes :

• Premium bottom pellets
• Artemia, bloodworms, frozen krill
• Pellets rich in animal proteins (prawns, mussels)

Water quality

• Ideal temperature: 26 - 30°C
• pH: 6.2 - 7.2
• GH: 4 - 10 °dGH
• KH: 2 - 6 °KH
• Conductivity: 150 - 300 µS

Native to tropical freshwater, this loricariid requires warm, well-filtered, oxygen-rich water. Add a conditioner to secure the parameters if necessary.

Decor & environment

Use a fine substrate, roots, flat stones and ceramic tubes for breeding.
Avoid overpowering lighting: areas of shade and calm are essential for the plant's well-being. Compatible with hardy plants (Anubias, Bucephalandra).

The L236 SW is a precious species: avoid overly lively or brutal cohabitants. For breeding, use ceramic tubes closed on one side and very stable water (constant temperature, controlled conductivity).
