Peckoltia braueri 'L121' (4-6 cm)
Discreet zebra pleco - perfect for well-planned Amazonian planters
The Peckoltia braueri, listed under number L121, is a small Loricariid native to the Orinoco basin (Venezuela, Colombia). Its brown body decorated with golden stripes and zebra patterns makes it a very popular wild-looking fish. Quiet, discreet and easy to keep, it is perfectly suited to community or specific Loricariid tanks.
Behaviour & maintenance
The Peckoltia braueri is territorial with its fellow fish if space or hiding places are insufficient, but remains peaceful with other fish. Provide plenty of caves and roots to give it a safe, stimulating environment. Volume recommended: minimum 80 L per individual.
Feeding
Omnivorous, mainly carnivorous:
- Protein bottom pellets
- Bloodworms, artemia, krill, mussels
- Pellets for groundfish
- Occasional plant supplements (spirulina, poached vegetables)
Feeding should be done in the evening, as this is an essentially nocturnal species.
Water quality
- Temperature: 25 - 30°C
- pH: 6.0 - 7.5
- GH: 4 - 10 °dGH
- KH: 2 - 6 °KH
- Conductivity: 150 - 250 µS
Soft, clean, well-oxygenated water is essential. Use a water conditioner to neutralise chlorine and heavy metals.
Decor & environment
This pleco appreciates shady areas, hollow roots and egg-laying tubes. A fine substrate and fixed plants such as Anubias or Bucephalandra are ideal. Subdued lighting is recommended.
