Panaque Sp. L 090 5-6cm Wild(Panaque sp. L090)
Large, peaceful, wood-eating pleco for spacious aquariums
The Panaque Sp. L 090 5-6cm Wild(Panaque sp. L090), often associated with the "Papa Panaque" group, is a spectacular loricariid native to Brazil (Rio Tocantins). Offered here in a size of 5-6 cm (young wild specimens), it is intended for spacious, very well-filtered aquariums in our freshwater world, with well-equipped aquariums.
Behaviour & maintenance
The Panaque L090 is a calm, nocturnal bottom-dwelling fish that spends most of its time on or in the wooden decor.
- Generally peaceful behaviour with open water fish.
- Can be territorial with other large loricariids if hiding places are limited.
- Recommended for experienced aquarists ( rather difficult level).
Allow a minimum of 350 litres for an individual (more when adult or living together). Ensure high-performance filtration, a good current and well-oxygenated water. Use starter bacteria and check your parameters with water tests.
Feeding
This Panaque is a wood-eating herbivore: wood is an integral part of its diet.
- Basis: pellets and granules for herbivorous Plecos, rich in fibre and plants.
- The permanent presence of natural wood (roots, marsh wood) is essential for digestion.
- Supplements: poached vegetables (courgette, cucumber, spinach), spirulina food.
- Protein supplements (krill, artemia, etc.) sparingly to avoid digestive problems.
See our range of foods for bottom-feeding fish. In planted tanks, choose robust plants and supplement with aquarium fertiliser.
Water quality
- Ideal temperature: 25 - 29°C
- pH: 6.0 - 7.5
- GH: 5 - 15 °dGH
- KH: 2 - 8 °KH
- Conductivity: 150 - 400 µS
Treat the water with a water conditioner before introduction. This large plant is sensitive to nitrite and nitrate build-up: change the water weekly (20-30%) and monitor your parameters with water tests.
Decor & environment
In the wild, it can be found in wooded and rocky areas with strong currents. Reproduce this environment:
- Aquarium substrate such as sand or rounded gravel.
- Lots of roots, branches and wood (source of food and hiding places).
- Rocks forming caves and gaps where they can take refuge.
- Moderate to subdued lighting, with areas of shade.
For the right décor, use aquarium substrate, ouraquascaping elements and aquarium lighting. Complement with decorations.

A Panaque L090 in good shape always has wood available and benefits from oversized filtration. Remember to renew the roots regularly and check your parameters with our water tests.
