Carbon: basis of plants
Plants consist mainly of carbon. CO2 is their crucial nutrient and building block for photosynthesis, where they produce sugar from CO2, water and light. This also produces the essential oxygen for all living things.

In aquaria, natural CO2 levels are often too low, leading to slower plant growth and increased susceptibility to algae. Well-growing aquatic plants prevent algae growth.

Regular addition of CO2 creates the basis for healthy plant growth with strong green leaves and vibrant colours. This promotes oxygen production, improves water quality and prevents algae growth.

CO2 production
Valuable carbon is produced by a natural bioreaction. Selected micro-organisms combined with Dennerle's CO2 Constant-Gel provide at least 40 days of constant CO2 per fill.

Unlike conventional Bio CO2 systems that use household sugar, CO2 production is often irregular. It starts quickly but soon decreases, with a surplus of CO2 initially and a deficit later. Therefore, they are less suitable for aquaristics.
