The Sarasa Tancho shape is an ornamental selection of Carassius auratus (goldfish), featuring a creamy white or pearly body topped with a single bright red circular or oval "patch" centred on the top of the head (the "tancho" area). It combines the elegance of the Tancho pattern with the white-red Sarasa colouring. This variant reaches a fine adult size of around 12 to 15 cm in good conditions.

Behaviour & care

• A peaceful, sociable fish, suitable for a community aquarium or eventually a small supervised tank.
• Although robust, it produces a high biological load: it needs a good volume and filtration.
• It is best to avoid mixing it with species that are very fast or too competitive for food, as it can be overwhelmed.

Diet

• Omnivorous: accept flakes or pellets suitable for goldfish.
• Recommended supplements: poached vegetables (peas, zucchini), mud worms or daphnia for variety.
• Be careful not to overfeed: too much can lead to pollution and intestinal problems.

Water quality

• Recommended temperature: 18-24°C. (Sarasa is more like "cool water")
• pH: approximately 6.5 to 7.5.
• Hardness: moderate to slightly hard, but above all very clean, well-filtered water.

Decor & environment

• Minimum recommended volume: a sizeable tank or pond. For example, for a fish of around 12?cm, you need at least ??200?L or more to ensure growth and quality of life.
• Sandy soil or fine gravel, with a sober décor for easy maintenance.
• Robust plants, clear areas for swimming, good oxygenation and serious filtration.

To make the red "tantcho" patch stand out, choose a dark or neutral background (charcoal grey or black) and moderate lighting, which will highlight the red colouring on a white background. Maintain excellent water quality (weekly change of 20% recommended) and avoid overcrowding: a 12?15?cm goldfish in too small a volume can be extremely stressed and develop diseases.
