Syntripsa matanensis – Freshwater crab from Lake Matano (Sulawesi)
Syntripsa matanensis is a rare and fascinating freshwater crab native to Lake Matano in Sulawesi, Indonesia. This ancient lake, part of the Malili lake system, is home to a unique fauna of endemic shrimp, snail and crab species.
This crab is distinguished by its robust carapace, long legs and discreet behaviour. It is mainly active at night and enjoys aquariums rich in rocks and hiding places that replicate its natural habitat.
