The Ghost Koi is a hybrid ornamental carp created by crossing classic Koi with metallic common carp. Its name comes from its ghostly appearance: silver or golden reflections, streamlined body and luminous coat visible even in dark water.

Very hardy and fast, it is perfect for medium to large garden ponds, alone or in groups with other Koi varieties or pond fish.

Behaviour & maintenance

A calm, gregarious species, the Koi Ghost likes to live in groups. It adapts well to temperature variations and has no problem living with other carp, goldfish, shubunkins or sturgeons.

You'll need a pond of at least 3,000 litres, with a good depth (≥ 80 cm) to avoid thermal shock.

Feeding

Omnivorous:

• Floating granules for Koi carp
• Plants: lettuce, spinach, algae
• Small insects, worms, larvae (protein supplement in summer)

Water quality

• Ideal temperature: 12 - 26 °C (tolerate 4-30 °C)
• pH: 7.0 - 8.0
• GH: 6 - 16 °dGH
• KH: 5 - 10 °KH
• Oxygenation: high (air pump recommended)

Koi Ghost are often the first to come to the surface to eat. They quickly become tame and can be fed by hand! Make sure you cover shallow ponds: they are excellent jumpers.
